Today I received an email from a wonderful lady who has knitted the Ice Queen Cowl from Knitty on-line magazine.

It's made from hand-dyed Happy-go-knitty merino/silk lace weight.
I think it looks amazing!!

Oh...silk!

I have waited and waited and now it has finally arrived: 100% mulberry silk!

It's luscious and soft and the sheen is just amazing. It has that typical smell of pure silk.

I will dye it on Friday. Aqua? Denim blue? Beetroot? Dark red?
Exciting!

Silk?

I am so tempted to add some 100% silk yarn to my range.
The sheen on a pure silk yarn is just amazing!

I’m looking at a fine mulberry silk lace yarn with 900m/100gm.
That’s enough for a beautiful shawl but it’s fine knitting.
Too fine? Would you do it?

There is another option of a mulberry silk yarn with 390m/100gm.
That’s fingering so like a sock yarn. But 390m would hardly
make a shawl so you would need 2 skeins for most projects.
Silk is amazingly beautiful but not cheap...

What do you reckon?
Which one should I start with? Or just go with both?
Any comments would be much appreciated!

Thanks

This is an example of what you can create with
2 skeins of the 390m/100g mulberry silk.

(Three skeins/colours have been used in this shawl,
but two skeins is enough to make the shawl.)

Finished socks

Jo has finished her stripy socks now.
They are knitted with Happy-go-knitty self-striping
BFL sock yarn and I think they look fab!
I know she made them as a gift
so someone’s is very lucky.

Jo is an avid sock knitter and before she had finished the socks above
she had already laid her hands on the next skein.

Looking forward to more photos, Jo!

Baa has arrived!

Haha, yes ‘Baa’ arrived at my house today!
He is a needle gauge measurer from Bamboolery
and a present from my lovely sis MiA.

He’s made of bamboo and very clever because on one side
you’ve got metric sizes and on the other one US. Handy!
The two little charms are of course stitchmarkers!

Thanks sis, what a fab present!

Do you want your own one? Well, there are no more ‘Baa’
(he is very special!) but you can find other ones here

And the winner is...

I apologise for the delay in announcing the winner of the draw.
Google simply didn’t let me log in to my account yesterday!

But, from my random draw today I have found out that

Jane Campbell

is the winner of two skeins of cotton yarn.
Congratulations Jane!

You mentioned that you like the pink colours,
can I tempt you with any of the following?

Top row:  Lollipop, Raspberry swirl, Rose
Bottom row: Cotton candy, Rosehip 1, Rosehip 2, Bubblegum, Watermelon

These beanies and flower hair clips are examples of what
I knit from this lovely 100% cotton.

Jane, please send me an email to happygoknitty AT hotmail DOT com
and we will sort the details.

Very pleased

Yes, I'm very pleased with the new
self-striping BFL sock yarn I have dyed!

So far I have always dyed the sock yarn with
even stripes, like in the image below.

This time most of them are dyed with a variation
of wide and narrow stripes. Very nice!

Here are some samples:

These skeins are not listed in my felt shop yet,
but if you would like to buy a skein feel free to send
me an email to the address in the header.
They are NZ$38/skein.
