I'm going to KAN (Knit August Night) in Napier next Thursday for a 3 day long knitters retreat. The rainbow yarn I have got at the moment is for taking to KAN. Feedback on facebook on this yarn was amazing with lots of requests so I have started a booking list for the next dye lot. Feel free to contact me if you would like to pre-book some yarn. In the next dye lot I will probably make kits of BFL and alpaca/silk as well.

I am so lucky!

I have an incredibly talented sister – MiA! She dyes and spins and crochets and knits and everything she makes comes out absolutely stunning!

A little while ago she posted pics of an amazing shawl she had knitted – the beautiful 'Dreambird'.

My jaw dropped when I found the shawl in my letterbox today. She has sent it as an early birthday present although my birthday is not until October! But it's getting cooler here in Auckland so I will start using it straight away.

Am I lucky or what! Thanks so much, MiA!

If you would like to make this beautiful shawl, MiA spins the perfect yarn for it and you can buy it in her etsy shop. The pattern can be found on ravelry.

Below are some skeins she's got available. Pop over and grab one before they disappear!

Wow – photos

Wonders of Wool was such a busy market, I didn't have time to take photos until half-way through so lots of goodies are already missing here.

Still – here are some photos from Happy-go-knitty's stall at Wonders of Wool, Wellington Underground market.

Enjoy!

Today was ANZAC day here in NZ. What can you do on an extra day off work? Dye yarn of course! This was the last dye lot before I go to Wonders of Wool next weekend. I will bring heaps of stock!

Here are some samples of the new skeins.

Beautiful blues

I received an email from Mia, who has knitted both self-striping and colour changing socks with Happy-go-knitty yarn. Pretty cool, I reckon!

I made a dream come true!

I received an email a while ago from the lovely Kiwiyarns. She had had a dream about green and purple stripy yarn and she asked if I could help her make the dream come true.

You can read her post here. It gives me the warm fuzzies! I'm so happy to hear that you like it, WS!

11 out of 10

I’m so very pleased with my colour changing BFL  yarn!

The yarn below is for socks. I have dyed it double stranded so it will give two identical socks! And the first 3–4 meters, when pulled from the centre, is a different colour to give a nice edge at the top of the sock. You can of course use it for wrist warmers, mittens or similar projects as well.

I think this yarn is so funky, I will proudly rate it 11 out of 10.  :)

What do you reckon?

I have listed the yarn in my felt shop together with the colour changing for shawls and some new self-striping. Click the images below to check them out.

Stripes for tiny feet

Remember Alice's funky, stripy socks a few posts ago?
She has now used some leftover yarn to make the cutest little baby socks!
Both pairs from one skein of Happy-go-knitty self-striping BFL sock yarn.

Babies can have colourful stripy socks too!

More yarn blanks

I have dyed all the blanks that I pulled up on my knitting machine last week.
It was a lot of fun!

First out are the four single thread 4ply BFL blanks.

Pretty cool, eh!

And here are the wound up balls. I'm very pleased! I guess the gradient burgundy yarn could have had a more noticeable gradient, but I think these will be very nice knitted up as shawls!

I had also made seven blanks of 4ply merino/silk/nylon that I knitted double so that it can be used for two identical socks.

As you can see, some of them have the first 3-4 meters in a different colour so that it will give a thin edge at the top of the sock.

I was happy with the blanks but got very disappointed when I unraveled them to dry... The dye has not penetrated the yarn properly so it looks quite mottled... There are even white spots... I guess they will still look ok knitted but it's not the way I wanted my sock blank yarn to look!

Is anyone keen to knit some 4ply merino/silk/nylon socks for a discounted price?
2 balls = 100grams/360 meters (enough for 1 pair of socks)
1 x 100grams – $20 + postage
2 x 100grams – $30 + postage     All sock blanks are sold.

First I thought my blanks had been to tight. But they really weren't so I think it's the blend of the yarn. I think the silk made the two threads stick to each other.

Next time I will knit the merino/silk single thread for shawls and knit the BFL double for socks. It actually makes sense since the BFL is so fantastic for socks and the merino/silk is great for shawls! Lesson learned!
